Behavioral Health Coordinator
Leslie assumed office duties in 2005 to assist with the development of a Behavioral Health program for the tribe. Leslie has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University and is licensed to practice in the State of Michigan. Her employment background includes Community Mental Health and the public school system.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Behavioral Health Program Services are available to enrolled MBPI citizens who reside within the service area of Allegan, Barry, Kalamazoo, Kent, and Ottawa Counties. Limited assistance may be available for those outside the service area.

PROGRAM SERVICES

  • Outpatient Services
    • Confidential clinical services for adults and children
    • Includes intake, screening, and biopsychosocial assessment of emotional, behavioral, environmental, and substance use/abuse symptoms
    • Person-Centered Treatment Planning using a holistic approach that is respective of the individual and his or her personal, traditional, cultural, and spiritual values
    • Outpatient Counseling / Education
      • Topics include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, grief, stress, family problems, school problems, abuse, and adjusting to diabetes
    • Case Management / Coordination of Services / Advocacy / Referral
    • Alternative appointment times and locations may be available upon request
  • Emergency Services / Crisis Intervention
    • Assistance with Psychiatric hospital admissions
    • Monitoring of persons in inpatient facilities to assume continuity of care and adequate discharge planning
    • Walk-in services are available (based upon Coordinator availability. It is advisable to call in advance.)
  • Prevention Activities
    • Educational activities designed to support wellness
    • Based upon the needs of the community
  • Anishnaabek Healing Circle: Access to Recovery Program (ATR)
    • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration funded program awarded to Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan for years 2010-2014
    • 12 federally recognized Tribes in Michigan serve as vendors
    • Provides clinical and recovery support services for eligible persons with current or historical struggles with alcohol or other drugs
    • Serves citizens of the Michigan Tribes, citizens of other federally recognized Tribes, and family members, ages 12 and up, residing in the Tribes’ service area
